There are weddings that announce themselves, and there are weddings that unfold like a held breath. Stephanie and Avi's — 350 guests, one September night at Miami's Ice Palace — was the latter.
Theirs was a friendship before it was a romance. Avi knew early; Stephanie needed longer to see that the loyal, steady constant in her life was, in fact, the love of it. His patience made the case. From the moment we met them, we knew theirs was a rare kind of union — and a rare kind of commission: a celebration designed to bring two large families, of entirely different cultures and faiths, together as one.
The wedding was Orthodox in full; the Tish, the Bedeken, the Hora, and unmistakably theirs: a marriage of Cuban warmth and Jewish tradition staged across three rooms, each telling a different story. The central challenge was to coax a dark, industrial warehouse into something soft and candlelit, then to lead guests on a journey of color, from light to dark. It began in an all-white ceremony, moved through a taupe-and-gold Tish, and resolved in a reception of black and gold, its drama tempered by white florals and greenery.
The ceremony arrived in white — ivory blooms, a haze of candlelight, and a suspended chuppah, custom-designed and fabricated in the shape of an infinity symbol: two loops resolving into one, the two faiths and two families made a single form. The Bedeken, later reimagined as the cocktail reception, was taupe and architectural — its stage framed by a peaked archway threaded with built-in LED light and anchored by runners of white hydrangea and candlelight.
Then the reception broke the spell entirely: black, ivory and gold, low-lit and glittering, fringe chandeliers swaying above mirrored tables as greenery climbed until the warehouse walls simply vanished. Mirrored surfaces caught and multiplied the soft light; custom curved royal tables, lit from beneath, softened every hard line the building had. A grand master bar presided over the back of the room, framed by lounges, while the rest dissolved into layers texture and candle light reflection. What remained, in the end, was the thing that mattered most — intimacy inside a room of 350, and a great love story, well told.
